Pleasant Grove Recreation Center offers childrens dance classes for ages 4 to 15. These classes offer a variety of dance styles, from traditional technique to modern dance styles. All classes will be once a week from September 2021 through May 2022. Each class will last approx. 55 minutes and include contemporary, ballet, hip hop, and jazz. There will be a dance recital at the end of the year. There is a non refundable registration fee of $76 (includes year-end costumes). Monthly fee of $31.
*Pro-rated tuition fees for late sign-ups or absent dancers will not be given.

Beginning Ballet (7-14)
Class Description: Beg Ballet (7-14)
Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. Ballet is for dancers ages 7-14 years old. This is a beginning class that will teach dancers incredible coordination, discipline, and technique. Ballet students are required to follow the ballet dress code. (leotard of any color, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, and hair pulled back in a bun ). This class is held on Mondays for 55 minutes.

Class Description: Littles (4-5)
Littles is a beginning class for dancers ages 4-5 years old. In this class they will incorporate movement corresponding to music, listening skills, basic ballet, jazz, coordination, and technique. This class is held on Tuesdays for 55 minutes.

This class is held on Wednesdays for 55 minutes.

Class Description: Beg Hip Hop (7-14)
Hip Hop is for dancers ages 7-14 years old. This is a beginning class that will teach dancers incredible coordination, discipline, foot work, combinations across the floor, center work, technique, musicality, and rhythm that you just can't learn in any other format. we will be encouraging individual style. This class is held on Thursdays for 55 minutes.

McKenzie Tomlinson
McKenzie has been involved with our dance program since 2011. She has had 22 years of dance experience in tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary, lyrical, and hip hop. She has performed for ABC and Disney 2011-2015. She has taken Master classes with many renouned dancers including Joey Dowling, Jackie Ford, Travis Wall, Denise Wall, Dana Wilson, Martha Nichols, Jackie Slate, and Andy Pellick. Overview
Teaching the participants different types of dance movement, increasing strength and flexibility, while building social skills.
Class Layout
- 7-10 Minutes Warmup and Stretch
- 7-10 Minutes Center Floor Work
- 7-10 Minutes Across the Floor Work
- 20-25 Minutes Choreography
- 5 Minutes Cool Down/Strength Training
Class Appropriate Attire
Participants will be expected to wear clothing appropriate for dancing, stretching, and moving each week to class. An example of appropriate clothing would be:
- Tights or leotards
- Bike shorts
- Leggings
Ages 6-12 and up should wear a more form fitting top in order to allow the dance instructor to watch complete body movements. Younger students, (ages 3-5) can wear a t-shirt if desired. Tops should completely cover the torso, (no midriff shirts). Ballet slippers or dance shoes must be worn to class (no socks only).
Attire questions can be directed to the dance instructor the first day of class.
Jeans, baggy clothes or other casual clothing will not be tolerated. In future months, participants may be asked to wear color assigned attire depending on skill level.
Types of Movement
Participants will be taught in basic ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, contemporary, and lyrical movement. They will be expected to learn all movement taught in class regardless of personal genre preference.
Concerts
Christmas Program
We will have a small Christmas program for all age groups. Concert will be at the recreation center.
Spring Concert
Classes will be taught 2-3 dances for participating in the Spring Concert. Dancers must attend class throughout the season in order to learn the movement required for them to dance with their class. In order to participate in the Spring Concert attendance at 70% of the classes should be used as a guideline. If the teacher feels that a student may have missed excessive amounts of class and are unable to learn the movement, parents may schedule with the teacher additional times for dancers to learn necessary steps for the Concert. Additional fees may apply for these classes.
Beginning Ballet (7-14)

Pleasant Grove Recreation Center offers childrens gymnastics classes for ages 3 to 15. There is a variety of classes from beginning to intermediate. All classes will be once a week year round. Each class will last approximately 55 minutes.
Classes will be held month to month through July 2022.
Starting September 2022 there will be three sessions a year. Fall (September-December), Spring (January-May) and Summer (June-July).

Pleasant Grove Gymnastics
Preschool
This class is for boys and girls ages 3 to 5. When they are 5 years old they can pick between this class and the appropriate level class for them. In these classes we focus on building basic gymnastics skills like cartwheels and handstands as well as working on coordination for beam, bars and vault. Everyone is welcome! Classes may be held on some holidays.

Boys (All levels)
This is an all level boys only class where they will work on the six apparatuses that men’s gymnastics use. We focus on building strength and endurance to be able to do the skills that are in levels 1 through 3 of men’s gymnastics. There are classes for 5 to 8 year olds and 9 and up. Everyone is welcome! Classes may be held on some holidays.

Girls Intermediate (Level 2)
This class is for girls with a bit more experience. They must be evaluated to be in this class for the required skills. These skills include but are not limited to a cartwheel on the floor, a pullover on the bars, straight jumps on the beam and a handstand with a straight body for vault. There are classes for girls 5 to 8 and 9 and up. Classes may be held on some holidays.
Girls Advanced (Level 3)
This class is for girls that are more advanced. They must be evaluated to be in this class for the required skills. These skills include but are not limited to a round off on the floor, a back hip circle on the bars, a handstand on the low beam, and being able to jump to handstand on the vault. This class is for girls 5 and up. Classes may be held on some holidays.

Babysitting Training Class 2021-2022
This class is designed for boys and girls ages 9 to 15 who want to learn some skills in order to become a "Great" Baby Sitter. It is an all day camp that will include:
- Ins & Outs of Babysitting - Your responsibility as a sitter
- Child Care - Diapering, bottles, feeding, sanitation, and clean up
- Safety & Emergencies - Keeping kids safe, phone etiquette, bumps & scrapes
- Games & Fun - Activities to do with the children
- The camp will also include a sitter's kit which will include things to take along Babysitting

Spring
The Pleasant Grove Recreation Department has teamed up with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to offer a community youth fishing program. This program is open to all youth ages 7 through 14 years old. This program will educate youth on casting, knot tying, proper use of fishing equipment, fish biology and diversity, aquatic ecology, water cycle and quality, fisheries management and ethics, fishing opportunities in Utah and most importantly - FUN!
Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, for six weeks. Each class is 90 minutes, with the first half hour instructing participants on the above mentioned topics and the last 60 minutes, fishing. Classes will be held at the Manila Creek Pond, located at 3300 North 900 West. The Manila Creek pond is stocked with Rainbow Trout and Blue Gill. A supervisor, along with the dedicated hunter volunteers will be working with the participants in groups of five or six. This is a great chance to experience Utah’s fabulous outdoors. You will need to bring your own fishing pole.

Summer

Description: In Snapology’s Pokémania program, students will explore the Pokémon world and practice their Pokémon training skills! They will create their own training gyms, unique battles, and even their very own generation of Pokémon. Your student will also explore some real-world science as they examine the habitats, characteristics, and needs of different Pokémon. They will do more than catch ‘em all, they will build and examine them all very closely and have a blast doing so! This program is from Snapology’s creative building variety. Students will not be provided with detailed building instructions. They will review a theme or principle of Pokémon® and then engage in LEGO® building activities around those themes. Camp shirts are included!

Description: To the Batcave, LEGO® fans! Design your own superhero, create your own adventure, and build epic battle scenes. Have a blast as you create your own fantasy world of superheroes and supervillains, straight out of the pages of DC and Marvel comic books. You might even unleash some of your own superpowers! This program is from our creative building variety. Campers will not be provided with detailed building instructions. Campers will review themes from various Superheros and then engage in LEGO® building activities surrounding those themes. Camp shirts are included!
Developing Engineers: Mechanical Masterminds

Description: Is your student inquisitive, a problem-solver, a big-thinker, a tinkerer, a puzzler, a LEGO® lover, or a budding engineer? If so, they’re the perfect fit for Snapology’s Developing Engineers: Mechanical Masterminds program! This program gives your student the tools they need to understand mechanical movement through the foundations of simple machines, physics, and engineering design. They will see moving parts up-close as they follow instructions to build various machines, then use the models to develop new design ideas, test out physics concepts, and even play games with their partners and classmates. Whether they are the creative-constructive type or prefer the inquisitive-deconstructive way of learning, this program is sure to spark their interests! This program is from Snapology’s engineering variety. Learning and play will be facilitated with LEGO technic kits and motor packs. Camps shirts are included!
Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Description: In Snapology’s Planes, Trains, and Automobiles program, children will explore the world of transportation. Students will build models of their favorite forms of transportation as they learn about energy, wheels and axles, air resistance, and more. They will also learn about the history and modern use of these vehicles, and apply this knowledge to their builds. This program is from Snapology’s engineering variety. Learning and play will be facilitated with LEGO technic kits. Camp shirts are provided!
