PROPOSED PROPERTY TAX INCREASE

Property taxes in Pleasant Grove have not been raised in over 35 years. Through prudent fiscal planning and the efficient use of public funds, the City has maintained high quality services while keeping the tax burden low for residents and businesses. The City is considering a small property tax increase to fund public safety and emergency services and critical road maintenance. The proposed increase would generate approximately $650,000 in revenue. The cost to the average household would be approximately $4.50 per month.

WHAT TO KNOW

On June 29, 2022 the Pleasant Grove City Council passed Resolution 2022-038. The resolution proposed increasing property taxes by approximately $4.50 per month for the average household. Through an open and transparent process, the City has thoroughly reviewed the needs of the community and is proposing to use the revenues from the property tax increase to hire two additional police officers and two additional firefighters, as well as fund critical road maintenance.

PUBLIC SAFETY & LIFE-SAVING EMERGENCY SERVICES

The population of Pleasant Grove has nearly tripled in the past 32 years from less than 14,000 residents in 1990 to approximately 40,000 residents today.

During this time of unprecedented population growth, the number of city police officers and firefighters has remained much lower than neighboring cities while the demands for public safety and life-saving emergency services have increased significantly. The City is proposing to hire two full-time police officers and two full-time firefighters.

CRITICAL ROAD MAINTENANCE

In addition, the wear and tear on city roads from more residents and workers has taken its toll. The City is proposing using approximately $250,000 a year to fund critical road maintenance. Good roads cost less. Regular road maintenance prevents them from deteriorating and makes them last longer.
